About us

STOPstart began through a desire to help trafficked women in Cambodia following a visit to the country by two members of our team, Jane and Lisa in 2008. This was the beginning of a journey of discovery about the issue of human trafficking not only in Cambodia but around the world. Meeting some of the women and girls that have been trafficked in the country of Cambodia and hearing their stories.

Within months STOPstart became a team of five women who through various experiences and backgrounds are all passionate about making a difference to the lives of trafficked women and children.Our desire is to see trafficked women supported and empowered to be all they are meant to be and to build awareness of human trafficking within Australia.

Cambodia is a key focus for STOPstart, a country where thousands of women and children every day are trafficked especially in the sex industry where the demand is increasing daily. Through the initial visits to Cambodia STOPstart were introduced to Hagar International, a Christian organisation working to help former trafficked women through counselling, education, day to day support and employment pathways.

One focus social enterprise project in Cambodia is SSE (STOPstart Enterprises) providing employment for former trafficked women. The project is in Phnom Penh teaching women design and fabric making skills. Products featured on this website have been made by former trafficked women who are part of this initiative.

Lisa Craig

Lisa is married to Phill and mother to three awesome children. She is a caring, kind and fun loving person who loves music, being creative, beach walks and enjoying life to the max! Lisas passion is people. Beginning her working life as a nurse and midwife, it is her desire to see every human have their right to freedom.

Jane Marquis

Jane is married to Hugh and is the mother of three lovely children. Jane is passionate about giving people hope for the future and helping eradicate human suffering. She is a caring and compassionate woman who loves keeping active, eating out, travelling and what every women enjoys, shoe shopping!!
